Welcome to the new location of the Fly Bye / Taco Bell Website (August 17th, 2000) It has been a busy week for me but after many hours I have the website posted. I have moved the web site to a different location because I was out of web space at Willinet. Moving it will also allow me to do some much needed updating to my personal web site. I have added some more quick links to the site. Once there you will find all of the year ending player and team statistics. Also I recently added a records section that covers team and individual records for the season and games. You will also notice that there is a section where each individual batting and pitching categories are sorted from best to worse. You will notice on most of the categories are broken down to the total number of the statistic and number of innings that it takes to get one. For example, John Doe has 20 hits for the year. He has had played in 60 innings this season. This means that every 3 innings he gets a hit. His innings per hit would be 3.000. This statistic is a better measure of who is the better hitter because a number of our players couldn't play the whole year. We will be having a softball party for the players, family and fans on September 9th at Kelly Ross's house. We will have music, swimming, horseshoes, etc... We will supply the beer and you will need to bring a side dish and pop. We haven't set a time yet but will this weekend. I will have directions and an address at that time. We would like to see everyone there and please let anyone who attended any of our games as a fan that they are also invited. If you could email me to let me know if you can make it I would appreciate it. Also include the number of people attending. I am looking for a tournament that we can get into. If you happen to hear or see a tournament that get can enter just let me know. I wouldn't be against going out of town to play. Once again thanks for all of the fun and the great season. I will be sending out more emails in the future in regards to the party and possible tournament.
In a make or break game Fly Bye / Taco Bell beats Townhouse 12-8 (August 4th, 2000) With all of the pressure of trying to stay alive in the race for the championship Fly Bye / Taco Bell used defense to defeat Townhouse 12-8 in a game for second place in the league. After Townhouse got off to a 6-0 lead in the top half of the first inning, the defense held them to only 2 runs in the next 5 innings. The hitting took care of the rest buy scoring at least 1 run in every inning. With the win Fly Bye / Taco Bell put themselves in a position to play the league leading OFO Systems for the first place position on Tuesday the 9th of August at 6:30 pm. In the second game Elk's Lounge / Ronda's forfeited the game improving our record to 11-4.
Fly Bye / Taco Bell comes from behind and then hangs on for the win (July 26th, 2000) In on of the most exciting games of the year Fly Bye / Taco Bell came back twice and hung on for the win in the last inning. After being down 9-2 going into the bottom of the 2nd inning Fly Bye / Taco Bell score 7 runs to come back and tie the game up. The tie didn't last long, Omaha Nation took a 15-12 lead going into the bottom of the 5th inning. The team exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th with the first 6 runs being scored without getting a single out. The team held on and to win 19-18 after Omaha Nation could only score 3 runs in the last inning.
Once again the big inning leads to defeat (July 19th, 2000) Letting the opposing team have a big inning dooms the team. For the 5th time this season Fly Bye / Taco Bell gave up 8 or more runs in an inning. Going into the bottom of the 3rd inning Fly Bye / Taco Bell had an 8-4 lead before giving up 8 runs on numerous errors to make the score 8-12. The team never recovered from it and ended up losing 13-17.
Solid defense and an eight run inning equals a win (July 11th, 2000). For only the second time this year the opposing team had more errors than we did. With only 4 errors which is the 2nd lowest all year, the team cruised to an easy victory 16-4. The game was put away in the second inning when Fly Bye / Taco Bell scored 8 runs to build a commanding 12-1 lead. Fly Bye / Taco Bell outscored Elk's Lodge / Ronda's 4-3 in the last 2 innings to win by the 10 run rule in 5 innings.
Fly Bye / Taco Bell put themselves back in the hunt for the championship (July 5th, 2000). In the most important game of the year, Fly Bye / Taco Bell used timely defense and aggressive base running to beat league leading Townhouse 11-8 in 7 innings and put themselves back in contention to win the league championship. After falling to 6-3 and being 2 games out of first the team played it's best game of the year to pull themselves with in one game of the league lead and more importantly even the head to head record to 1-1 against Townhouse. If Fly Bye / Taco Bell would have lost this game it would have been nearly impossible to win the championship being 3 games behind and 0-2 head to head. The score was tied 8-8 after 5 innings when the defense shut Townhouse down by not giving up any runs in the last 2 innings and scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th.
Errors sink the team once again (June 15th, 2000). For the 7th time this year we gave up six or more runs in an inning. After building a 10-4 lead we gave up 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth to let Omaha Nation back in to the game. In our first meeting we did the same thing by allowing them to score 10 runs in the last inning to tie the score. For the first time this year we were unable to come back and win in a close game in the final innings. Being down 16-18 in the last inning we only scored 1 run to lose 16-17. In 6 of the 8 games that we have played so far this year we had more errors than the other team.
No bats equal disappointing loss (June 2nd, 2000). In a game that matched the teams with the best two records in the league ended up being one sided. Fly Bye / Taco Bell had their worst offensive game of the year by batting for an average .211 with an on base percentage of .250. Because the team could only muster 4 hits and one run for the entire game we ended up losing by the 10 run rule 1-11. It was the teams first loss of the season dropping our record to 5-1. Once again because of our errors Townhouse scored 5 runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 10-1 lead. I would be a deficit that we could not recover from.
Fly Bye / Taco Bell win both games of a double header! (May 23, 2000) The softball team won both games of a double header by a total of 3 runs. In the first game a 12-11 victory over OFO Systems we came back and scored 3 runs in the top of the last inning to win. We had a 9-6 lead after 4 innings and didn't score any runs in the 5th and 6th innings and allowed OFO Systems to take a 11-9 lead on us. The team rallied to get 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning to take a 12-11 lead and the defense played error free ball and allowed 1 hit and no runs in the bottom of the inning preserve the win. The win moved our record to 4-0. In the second game against Marty's Tap the team got off to a bad start. After scoring 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning we gave up 9 runs (5 of them were earned) on 6 hits and 4 errors to give Marty's a 9-3 lead. The defense settled down and didn't allow any runs the next 2 innings while we scored 3 runs in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings to tie the game up. We started off the top of the 4th inning (which would end up being the last) with 5 hits and 1 walk. We ended up scoring 5 runs in the inning and put a lot of pressure on the opposition. Marty's ended up getting 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to make the final score 14-12. The win improved our record to 5-0 with all 5 games coming down to our last at bat. In every game this season we had been tied or behind going into our last at bat only to come out and win.
Fly Bye / Taco Bell is off to a good but shaky start. (May 20, 2000) The softball team is off to a 3-0 start after beating Elk's Lodge / Rhonda's, Siouxland Podiatry and Omaha Nation. We started the season with a 25-13 win over Elk's Lodge / Rhonda's in our first game. The score is not indicative of the game. After 2 innings we were behind 1-8 before scoring 8 runs in the top of the 3rd inning to get back into the game. We were tied at 13-13 going into the last inning when we scored 12 runs to put the game away. As a team we batted very well with a .581 average, pounded out 25 hits and scored 25 runs. Against Siouxland Podiatry we survived the long ball. They hit 7 doubles, 2 triples and a total of 18 hits to score 16 runs against us. The game went back an forth over the first few innings with the score being tied 12-12 going into the last inning. They scored 4 runs off of 4 hits, a walk and 1 error to take a 16-12 lead going into the bottom of the last inning. We went to bat needing 4 runs to tie and 5 runs to win. We started of with 3 consecutive hits and scored 5 runs to win the game. Against Omaha Nation we had built a big lead and let them back into the game. After building a 22-12 lead after 3 innings we gave up 10 runs in the top of the last inning and the game was tied 22-22. In that inning we surrendered 7 hits and had 4 errors. We went into the bottom of the last inning and scored 2 runs before time was called for our 3rd win in as many tries. We batted .615 and had 24 hits in the game. On the negative side of things we had 8 errors during the game. Back to the softball main page
